Mission

The mission of FIT is to meet the recruitment needs of industry in the area of IT, through providing training, support and career opportunities for unemployed people, so that they can achieve their true potential and contribute to the Irish economy.

Success

Businessman

The success of FIT is built on the dedication and commitment of a variety of interests working together to overcome economic disadvantage. The aim is to enable unemployed job seekers access to new employment opportunities. To date over 5,000 people have progressed from FIT courses into further education and/or successful employment. Not only does the course provide learners with excellent IT skills but also gives them the capacity to compete effectively within the labour market

"Industry is gaining intelligent and well trained employees."

Partnership

FIT is built on partnership, mutual benefit and shared expectations, for people who have less access to mainstream opportunities. It is pioneering new connections and interactions between industry, government and local communities. This collaboration is enabling many people to make fresh starts and take new direction to overcome unemployment and disadvantage.

Enabling

FIT enables marginalised job seekers to access quality ICT training, in preparation for the new and emerging employment opportunities across industry. Through FIT, previously long-term unemployed people are working as computer professionals in large corporations; loan parents are accessing opportunities which balance and facilitate work/family commitments; young people who have left school early are attaining market certification and standards necessary to secure substantive employment and career opportunities.

Innovation

FIT has pioneered new ways of helping people to access their abilities through many new exciting projects. From bringing IT to the homes and lives of people, to creating a new style of assessment that focuses on people's abilities rather than their formal education.

Action

FIT both leads and participates in a range of projects which enrich all of the countries involved and help Europe move towards its goal of becoming the leading knowledge economy over the coming decade. Innovation is the common theme of these collaborations which place partners at the cutting edge of change in labour markets, education and training and the information society.

Leadership

Major multi-national companies, alongside indigenous companies, have made FIT an effective conduit for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) interventions, by building the capacity and potential of individuals and equipping them to pursue emerging employment and career opportunities.

The companies leading FIT, state training providers FÁS, Vocational Education Committees (VECs), Local Employment Services Networks (LESNs), and Area Partnership Companies (APCs) indicate that their commitment and dedication to the initiative is based on the fact that they can make a difference in the lives of participants, while gaining the benefits of the skills attained.
