"FIT is now active in more areas than ever. Apart from the FIT Fastrack to IT initiative, FIT is also bridging the digital divide across Europe, acting as a catalyst for upskilling and inclusion, as Europe strives to become the most knowledge-based economy by 2010."
The following are examples of the innovative projects FIT has partnered with different organisations, both in Ireland and abroad.

It is a Leonardo da Vinci Transfer of Innovation project, based on a highly successful product developed under the Leonardo da Vinci PADD project - e-Cert Programme. The e-Cert will now be transferred to a new target group of tutors and teachers in Vocational Education and Training who had no or little exposure to Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in their personal and professional lives.
The ultimate objective of the eTuition project is to increase propensity of teachers to use ICT in Vocational Education and Training (VET) via a skills development programme that delivers competency, instils confidence and builds motivation. It will develop progression pathways for teachers' continuous professional development in the use of eLearning pedagogies and tools through a new eTuition Programme.
The new e-Cert VET programme will give teachers' competency in the everyday use of ICT and the eTuition programme will facilitate sharing of knowledge and best practices of the use of ICT in VET.
The project is delivered by four partners within three European countries:

This project aims to support the continuous professional development of teachers in the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in education by developing a framework which can act as an objective guideline for teachers, managers and education providers in development and perfection of teachers' ICT skill and use in teaching.
We believe that the framework will encourage teachers who are late adapters of ICT in making the first step towards new technologies, will support teachers who are ICT users but who need to be more informed about eLearning tools and strategies; and will identify and recognise teachers who are at the highest levels of expertise.
The project will also develop two programmes supporting teachers' Continuing Professional Development in ICT: e-Cert in Education programme as a basic introduction for teachers across all levels of education sector and an eTuition product as a progression option.
This project is funded under the EU Lifelong Learning Programme. FIT as a lead partner carries out the project in partnership with three European partners:

FIT is conscious about the growing population of people from East and Central European countries to Ireland and the UK. In 2007, FIT initiated a project that addresses the issue of migrants' integration into new society and workforce in particular.
Targeting those with lower levels of education, skills and ICT competency, the project will develop new methods for Adult Education providers to assist migrants and to use the competences and educational experiences acquired prior to migration. Through mapping of qualifications to the systems in the UK and Ireland, supporting the acquisition of ICT competencies and additionally improving their English language skills, the MigrantICT project will help migrants fulfil their social, cultural and career needs in the new society.
This project has been funded under the EU Lifelong Learning Programme and is coordinated by FIT in partnership with:

* "A8" refers to the eight countries from Eastern Europe who joined the EU in 2004: Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.
The S@niors project, funded under the EU Lifelong Learning Programme, aims at addressing the specific needs of the older population in relation to ICT by designing innovative training programmes and curricula specifically targeting the elderly population.
These curricula will be cognisant of their learning capacity, will concentrate on imparting necessary skills for engagement in the Information Society, will require no prior knowledge and will be delivered in a relaxed, informal and fun environment. This training programme will help seniors develop the practical computer literacy needed to participate in the new technological era. Moreover, an innovative learning tool will be established in a form of a social network web site recalling life experiences both past and present of our older population.
Project Partnership:
Emphasising youth integration into the labour market, this is a project promoted by the Student Computer Arts Society in Bulgaria and is funded under the EU Leonardo da Vinci Programme. This project is being developed in collaboration with partners in a number of EU member states and accession countries namely: Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Slovakia and Sweden.
FIT's contribution centres on disadvantaged youth and their specific needs, in terms of preparation for employment. A range of tools are being developed, in conjunction with our partners, to prepare career guidance professionals for the challenges facing them in guiding youth through life-long learning structures and to meet the challenges and opportunities in ever-changing labour markets.
The tools developed and the lessons learnt will be incorporated into FIT provision.
